Legacy Challenge Rules

Updates to the Random Trait Generator

Hello everyone! With all of my recent playtesting for upcoming Legacy Challenge rule changes on my Twitch channel, I noticed that both the Strangerville Mystery and Beach Life aspirations do NOT require you to move to those locations to complete them (unlike City Native). Since that’s the case, I have added them to the random trait generator.

As always if you don’t have either the Strangerville or Island Living packs you do not have to do those aspirations and simply reroll.

Updates and the Future of the Legacy Challenge

Hi everyone! Apologies for the lack of updates lately. The holiday season really took a lot out of us and January didn’t really leave a lot of time to look into the new packs and what not.

First off, Pinstar and I have been talking and we think that we’d like to get back into working on the Legacy Challenge rules again. We don’t like the idea of just outright abandoning the challenge, especially when so many new packs have added some stuff to the game. So we will be slowly working on playtesting and updating the rules with the newer packs. This might take a while as we are a bit behind, but we will work on it when we can.

Also, NerdyBunny has updated her printable scoresheet! You can check it out on her Tumblr.

Sims 4 Updates and the Legacy Challenge

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since we’ve given you an update regarding the changes to the Sims 4 and how they will affect the Legacy Challenge.

To be completely honest, we are a bit behind on The Sims 4 at the moment. We haven’t purchased Island Living and don’t really plan to, so it’s taken us a while to figure out what exactly we need to update since we don’t have the game to playtest.

First off, you may absolutely use the new CAS story mode to make your founder, but you do not have to. This is up to your own individual preferences.

Secondly, if you’d like to increase the difficulty of your challenge you can use the new “Off the grid” lot trait. We are not adding any official rules for this, but if you want to make your own challenge more difficult, then go for it.

You may also allow your Sims to get odd jobs, but this will have no affect on the challenge itself.

Finally, we are not updating the challenge for Island Living. We made a decision a while back that we will not be updating the challenge for further expansion packs. To be honest, we don’t really play The Sims 4 anymore and haven’t been buying the packs. You are more than welcome to use the new additions from any future packs in your challenge, there will just not be any new points for them.

Legacy Challenge Rules & Scoring Overhaul

It’s been a while since Pinstar and I had a chance to go over the rules and scoring of the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge with a fine-toothed comb, but we finally had a chance to do just that this past weekend.

We had been receiving many comments and DMs that the scoring as it was previously was far too difficult to keep up with now that there are so many new packs in the game. So we decided to take a look at what we had and update the scoring section of the challenge accordingly. Many of the scoring requirements have been drastically reduced to allow players to be able to enjoy the game without stressing over whether or not they are hosting enough parties or maxing enough skills. You can see all of the changes on the scoring page. The scoring sections that changed were as follows:

  • Family: Unchanged
  • Creative: Unchanged
  • Fortune: Unchanged
  • Love: The 10th point is no longer earned by completing both love aspirations in one lifetime. You will earn the 10th point by earning a set number of unique traits.
  • Athletic: Changed to 1 point for every 4 aspirations completed. The 10th point is earned by getting every unique aspiration in the game. (Toddler & Child included)
  • Nature: Unchanged
  • Food: Unchanged
  • Popularity: Changed to 1 point for every 9 medal points earned. 10th point requirement remains the same.
  • Deviance: Changed to 1 point for every 2 saved potions of youth.

As for the gameplay rule updates, the biggest changes here are that you will no longer be required to buy objects (Knight of the Octagon Table, etc) to get your Sim’s money down. You can just use the money cheat to change it to either §1800 for a regular start or §0 for an extreme start. You can also start on any 50 x 50 or 64 x 64 lot that you wish.

The other change to gameplay isn’t really a change, so much as it is an update on how we plan to go forward with this challenge. Pinstar and I have decided that updating the challenge for every single pack/expansion is making the challenge far too unwieldy. So we have decided to stop updating it after Seasons. You are more than welcome to use any and all future packs in your Legacy families as you wish. Those packs will not affect your overall score and can just be for fun.

We will continue to add new aspirations and traits to the random trait generators as needed.

Finally. We have a “new” Legacy Challenge in the works. The rules should be finalized for that by tomorrow. It will be announced once it’s ready!

Trait Generators Updated for Strangerville (& other updates)

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay in getting these updates out for the Strangerville release. We’ve been super busy over here.

The Random Trait Generators have been updated to include the new trait (only the one that can be selected in CAS, not the others obtained by playing the game) and aspiration.

As always if you do not own this pack, you can simply reroll to get a new trait/aspiration if you need to.

Furthermore, we do not currently have any plans to update the rules in any way for Strangerville (beyond adding the trait/aspiration to the generators) as we do not currently own the pack and therefore can’t playtest anything. This may change if/when we decide to get the pack, but I am not sure this pack really lends itself to Legacy gameplay. We’ll see!

Finally, I know several of you have been asking if we are planning to do a rule/scoring overhaul as a lot of the point requirements are extremely difficult (some almost impossible) to obtain with all of the new packs added. And the answer is YES, we do still plan to update this, we just haven’t had the time lately. We are going to try our best to do that this coming weekend!

Stay tuned for those updates!

Changes to the Extreme Start for Get Famous (plus a new, tougher optional extreme start!)

Yesterday I worked on updating the Extreme Start for the Legacy Challenge so that players can use Del Sol Valley’s newest 64 x 64 lot when starting out. With the help of other Simmers I was able to come up with a new set of rules for this new start.

First off, this lot costs A LOT more than previous 64 x 64 lots so it requires a slightly different set of rules than the original Extreme Start. The changes are as follows for the normal extreme start:

  • To use the new “Chateau Peak” 64 x 64 lot in Del Sol Valley use the cheat “FreeRealEstate On” to purchase the lot for free and bulldoze the house already on it. Once your Sim is moved in, buy the Knight of the Octagon Table and then use the money cheat to bring your Sim’s money to 0. Start in Winter as per usual. If you don’t want to do an extreme start on this lot, just buy the Knight as per usual and use the money cheat to bring funds down to §1800. Either way, be prepared for some VERY brutal weekly bills.

However, after much discussion, it was decided that some Simmers wanted even MORE of a challenge than the usual Extreme Start, so we have come up with the new Ultra Extreme Start! The rules for that are as follows:

  • Start the game in Winter
  • Use freerealestate on cheat to get the Chateau Peak lot for “free” (make sure to choose “Bulldoze lot when choosing Chateau Peak to move into)
  • Move Sim onto the now empty Chateau Peak Lot
  • Purchase the Knight of the Octagon Table and then use the money cheat to bring the Sim’s funds to 0
  • The lot must have the “Celebrity Home” Trait
  • In order to pay back the §35,000 “loan” for the lot, you must buy four additional Knights of the Octagon Table and one Viva La Landscape Painting before your founder dies (you may notice this will leave you $5 short on the loan, that’s because your Sim had $5 in their pocket when they bought the lot)
  • You can have your Sims get married while you are repaying the loan
  • Other objects may be purchased while your Sim is repaying the loan, just make sure all five objects are purchased before the founder’s death
  • The five items bought to repay the loan must be kept in the family inventory and not placed on the lot. This restriction is lived once all five objects are purchased and the loan is considered repaid.
  • Money can be spent however the player wishes as long as they make sure to save up for the loan repayment objects

Because of how difficult this start will be, it will be worth TWO additional points rather than one.

All rules for these new and updated Extreme Starts can be found on the main Legacy Challenge rules page!

Special thanks to KotabuckStormyDayzTigerLover78, and SimsMomChelle for the help!

If you have any questions about this update, be sure to either comment below or Tweet us your question!

I will be working on more updates to the Legacy Challenge rules and how to score it for the new pack over the next couple of weeks. Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States, it’s unlikely that I will be updating more until next week. But for now, you have the option to start a new Legacy on the Chateau Peak lot. Good luck!

Get Famous Aspirations Added to the Random Trait Generators

Hello everyone! Over the course of the next week or two Pinstar and I will be updating some of our challenges for the new expansion pack, Get Famous. Currently we are still working on playtesting many aspects of the new expansion, so we don’t have any solid gameplay rule changes/updates yet. However, I did update the Random Trait Generators to include the two newest aspirations added in this pack, “Master Actor/Actress” and “World-Famous Celebrity”. So it is now possible to randomly get those aspirations when using the generators.

As always, if you do not own this pack, you can re-roll to get a different aspiration.

UPDATE: I just realized there was a new trait added as well (I need more caffeine today… I completely missed it at first) so that too has been added to the Random Trait Generators!

I will be keeping you all posted for any and all updates that we make to our challenges over the next several days, so stay tuned!

FTC: The Get Famous link is an Amazon affiliate link which gives us a small commission if it is used. If you'd rather not use that link to buy the expansion, you can purchase Get Famous on Origin.

Adding/Updating New Content to the Website. Ideas needed!

Hi everyone! If you follow me on Twitter then you know that I have decided to discontinue my Youtube and Twitch channels indefinitely. Content creation on those two platforms just doesn’t work out for me with my already busy IRL schedule. However, now that I have made that decision that leaves me some extra time to work on the website again and I’d like to start adding new content here as well as making sure I keep up with the already existing content (something I haven’t always been great with in the past).

So I am wondering what you all would like to see added or updated on here? I am definitely considering starting up some written challenge series again (like what I did with the Sims 2 Legacy I was working on a year ago), but I’d like to add some new stuff as well. Also, are there any changes/updates to any of our currently existing challenges that you’d like to see? I know I’ve been getting questions about the Apocalypse Challenge, but Pinstar has decided not to continue updating that one (and we have a fellow Simmer currently working on updating the rules for that). However, I am willing to update any of the other challenges as needed. So please let me know your thoughts!
