Eat Like a Sim’s Month of Cookies – Black and White Cookies

This week’s recipe is the The Sims 4 Black and White Cookie recipe. Sims can make this recipe at cooking skill level four. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t typically have my Sims bake cookies as they tend to gain weight too quickly as it is, but I saw this recipe on the recipe list and thought it might be fun to make in real-life. Hopefully they don’t go to my hips as quickly as the in-game version does!

The in-game version looks pretty similar to what you expect traditional Black and White Cookies to look like, except perhaps, a bit smaller. The ones that my grocery store sells are quite large. I made my cookies smaller to reflect the size that they appear in-game.

Apparently these cookies can also be called half moon cookies, though I guess it depends on where you live. The Sims 4 game calls them Black and White Cookies so I decided to stay true to the game and call them that as well.

My recipe for Black and White Cookies deviates a bit from the usual as I did not use lemon extract in mine (I find it a bit too strong), so Black and White Cookie connoisseurs might scoff at this, but I think they came out great! To make up for the lack of lemon extract, I added a bit more vanilla extract than usual. If you don’t want to use as much vanilla, feel free to cut the amount in the cookie dough (not the icing) in half. You can find the recipe below the following comparison shot of the real life version and the in-game version.

Sims 4 Black & White Cookies made in real life.

Cookies

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Icing

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 to 2.5 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F

  2. In a large bowl beat the butter and sugar with a hand mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla, and beat until combined.

  3. In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder

  4. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture to the wet mixture and mix on low speed. Once combined add the next third of the flour and mix again. Repeat with the final third of the flour until the dough is combined.

  5. Using a large cookie scoop, place the dough approximately two inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.

  6. Gently press the dough down using the bottom of a glass that has been greased to form a small disc shape.

  7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. Allow to cool completely before icing.

Icing

  1. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave by heating it on 50% power in 30 second intervals (stir between each interval)

  2. In a saucepan bring the corn syrup and water to a boil. Once boiling remove the mixture from the heat and add the vanilla.

  3. Add the powdered sugar in 1/4 cup intervals, mixing after each 1/4 cup is added.

  4. Once the icing is at the desired consistency (think spreadable like cake frosting) you are good to go.

  5. Spread the white (vanilla) side of the frosting first on one half of the cookie, then finish with the black (chocolate) side to reduce the chocolate side bleeding through the white side.

NOTE:

These cookies are messy, especially if you don’t allow the icing to cool completely before eating (and let’s be honest here… do you REALLY want to wait to eat them?). So have napkins handy!
