Legacy Challenge Rules & Scoring Overhaul

It’s been a while since Pinstar and I had a chance to go over the rules and scoring of the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge with a fine-toothed comb, but we finally had a chance to do just that this past weekend.

We had been receiving many comments and DMs that the scoring as it was previously was far too difficult to keep up with now that there are so many new packs in the game. So we decided to take a look at what we had and update the scoring section of the challenge accordingly. Many of the scoring requirements have been drastically reduced to allow players to be able to enjoy the game without stressing over whether or not they are hosting enough parties or maxing enough skills. You can see all of the changes on the scoring page. The scoring sections that changed were as follows:

  • Family: Unchanged
  • Creative: Unchanged
  • Fortune: Unchanged
  • Love: The 10th point is no longer earned by completing both love aspirations in one lifetime. You will earn the 10th point by earning a set number of unique traits.
  • Athletic: Changed to 1 point for every 4 aspirations completed. The 10th point is earned by getting every unique aspiration in the game. (Toddler & Child included)
  • Nature: Unchanged
  • Food: Unchanged
  • Popularity: Changed to 1 point for every 9 medal points earned. 10th point requirement remains the same.
  • Deviance: Changed to 1 point for every 2 saved potions of youth.

As for the gameplay rule updates, the biggest changes here are that you will no longer be required to buy objects (Knight of the Octagon Table, etc) to get your Sim’s money down. You can just use the money cheat to change it to either §1800 for a regular start or §0 for an extreme start. You can also start on any 50 x 50 or 64 x 64 lot that you wish.

The other change to gameplay isn’t really a change, so much as it is an update on how we plan to go forward with this challenge. Pinstar and I have decided that updating the challenge for every single pack/expansion is making the challenge far too unwieldy. So we have decided to stop updating it after Seasons. You are more than welcome to use any and all future packs in your Legacy families as you wish. Those packs will not affect your overall score and can just be for fun.

We will continue to add new aspirations and traits to the random trait generators as needed.

Finally. We have a “new” Legacy Challenge in the works. The rules should be finalized for that by tomorrow. It will be announced once it’s ready!

A Brief Update – Sims 4 City Living & The Legacy Challenge

Hey everyone!

I know I have been pretty quiet in regards to site updates lately, but real life has yet again gotten in the way.

I just wanted to give you guys a brief update on where we stand with Sims 4: City Living. We are in the process of updating the Random Trait Generator right now, though I am not sure how long it will take to get the new traits/aspiration in. We will NOT be making a 2nd random trait generator for the house traits. You can choose those as you wish for your Legacy families. Continue reading →

Random Trait Generator Updated for Latest Patch

Hey everyone! Pinstar and I are getting settled into the new house so expect to see more frequent posts from us in the next week or so!
I just wanted to let you know that the Random Trait Generator has been updated for the latest patch and now includes the “Kleptomaniac” trait. The Grilled Cheese aspiration is NOT on the generator as it requires certain criteria to be met in order to be activated.

An conflict issue between Goofball and Snob has also been corrected so those two traits should not appear together anymore.

If you guys find any further conflicts, please let us know!

Latest Free Sims 4 Update, Aspirations, and Real Life Stuff!

TS4_646_ANNIVERSARY_01_006_1k_FLAT

Hi everyone! Hope you all are enjoying the new free content that released with The Sims 4!

We just wanted to let you all know that with our move to a new state imminent (we move next week, eek!) we will be slow to update the rules to include the new Grilled Cheese Aspiration, Gardener NPC, and Kleptomaniac Trait. Neither of us have had a chance to play the game in at least a month, let alone playtest it to figure out how these new items fit into the rules. Most likely we will update everything, including the Random Trait Generator in a couple of weeks once we get ourselves settled into our new house.

We apologize for the delay, but real life is extremely hectic right now and there is no way for us to get this out and ready before the move. Once we are all settled in, expect updates to the website to release more quickly. Until then, we apologize again for the inconvenience! See you all in a couple weeks!

Sims 4 Legacy Challenge Rules Tweak (and a RL update!)

Hi everyone! Pinstar and I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season.

I just wanted to let you all know that we added a rule tweak in regards to Legacy lots. The gameplay rules state that a family cannot move from the lot you move the founder onto and must live on that lot for the duration of the 10 generations. However, with the addition of the 64 x 64 lots in Windenburg in Sims 4 Get Together, we decided that you are allowed to move an already established Legacy family from a 50 x 50 lot onto one of the new 64 x 64 lots ONCE during the challenge. Once they move to the 64 x 64 lot, they are not allowed to move again. The FAQ and Gameplay Rules sections have both been updated to reflect this tweak.

Finally, I also wanted to give you all a brief update on real-life stuff. As some of you know, we are in the process of moving. Well we finally have a house and will be closing on it in mid-February. That’s less than two months away at this point! EEK! Given how busy we will be with the move, there will be less activity on the Legacy Challenge website. I will still try to post the Stories and Let’s Play Lists when I can, but expect their frequency to be decreased for now. Once we are moved and settled in (hopefully by the end of February), I will be getting back to weekly and possibly twice per week posts here 🙂

Have a great New Year everyone! Happy Simming!

Random Trait Generators Updated to Include Jealous

Random Trait Generators Updated to Include Jealous

Hey everyone! Just a quick post to let you know that we have updated both the single Random Trait Generator and the All Traits at Once Random Trait Generator to include the newly added “Jealous” trait. We also fixed a conflict where the Generator was allowing Sims to be Neat and Lazy at the same time. That will no longer happen.

Happy Simming!

Get to Work Challenge Rules Mega-Update

Welcome back portraits. You have been missed.

Welcome back portraits. You have been missed.

I am updating ALL of my challenges with the new gameplay additions introduced with The Sims 4 Get to Work. If you are playing these challenges and have NOT bought Get to Work, simply continue under the older rules.

The Legacy Challenge

(Want to see some of these new changes in action? Check out my wife’s stream of her new Legacy family today at 2pm EST on her Twitch channel!)

  • Added a new Succession Law Category, “Species”, with the following options “Xenoarchy (Heirs must alternate between human and alien) , Xenophobic (Heirs cannot be a different species from the founder)  Brood (Heirs must be carried in a pregnancy by the previous heir, regardless of the heir’s gender), and Tolerant (The species of the child has no impact on their eligibility for heir status). Legacy families in progress may pick one of these to begin following them. (Even if past generations didn’t follow the rule)
  • The founder is allowed to be an alien at start and alien spouses are allowed under normal spouse rules. If a Male Heir is abducted and has an alien baby, that baby may be eligible to be heir (depending on your succession laws).
  • Funds from owned businesses count toward family net worth for the purposes of the fortune score.
  • If your family owns a business the 10th point of fortune (Needing 5.7 million) can been replaced with “Buy every business perk for a Legacy Family Owned Business”. This can be skipped if you do not have your family own a business.
  • Memorializing a Sim via painting is no longer done with a realism painting, but rather a “Paint from reference” portrait. Even though “Paint from reference” unlocks at skill level 3, you need to have it done by a 8+ skill painter for it to count.
  • You may memorialize a Sim with a photograph taken by a Sim with a 5 photography skill.
  • You are allowed to follow Sims to their jobs if taking the new Doctor, Detective, or Scientist careers. Since these careers do not branch, having a sim reach the top level will satisfy the ‘both branches’ requirement in the Nature category.
  • Baking the highest level baking dish can be done in lieu of gourmet cooking to satisfy the ‘Highest Quality version of Baked Alaska’ point.
  • A single Sim must now max Baking in addition to Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, and Mixiology to earn that point.
  • Reduced the required death types from 11 to 10. The 11th “Death by rocket ship crash” is now the same as death by fire.

Getting Ready to Get To Work

Fan Email AssetIf you haven’t seen the trailers yet, or have been otherwise living under a rock, Get to work is slated to hit next month and with it will come some big things for the site. I will be updating all of my existing challenges to account for changes introduced by the new expansion pack. A brand NEW challenge will be introduced related to the business aspect of Get to Work.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates. There will be a little bit more of a delay between the release of the Get to Work and the release of my new challenge as I was not brought in to attend the Creator’s Camp event for this pack, so I haven’t had a hands-on experience with the game yet. But updates will be posted as I progress in crafting and developing the new challenge.

The Legacy Challenge and Game Updates

Granite Falls

A lovely teaser shot of the upcoming world, Granite Falls.

With the recent announcement of the upcoming Outdoor Retreat game pack coming to the Sims 4, you might be wondering how the Legacy Challenge will fit into the game changes as they are released.

During the Sims 2 days, Pinstar worked hard to bring updates to the Legacy Challenge as the updates to the game came out. We were unable to keep up with that in The Sims 3 due to real life demands, but we are hoping to be as active with the Sims 4 and its game updates as we were with The Sims 2.

We will be trying to implement challenge changes within a couple of weeks of the game being updated, but it may take time to playtest all of the changes.

As for the upcoming game pack, not much is known about what it will add to the game, so we can’t say for sure how it will affect the challenge, but we will keep you posted as we learn new information and HOPEFULLY give you an idea of some of the changes that will be made to the Legacy Challenge to accommodate it!

What do you all think the new game pack will include? We’d love to hear your speculations!

The Legacy Challenge Rules update 1.00

"Cold" By tcc007

“Cold” By tcc007

With the point charts finally finalized, the only thing left to tackle was to rule on ghosts.

See our updated and revamped scoring page for more details.

Major Rule updates:

  • You may use the death flower to guarantee success when pleading with the reaper to save a dying Sim.
  • You may NOT use ambrosia to resurrect a dead Sim. (You may cook it and have living sims eat it if you wish)
  • You may invite ghost Sims back into your family. However, they no longer earn your Legacy family any Legacy Challenge points. They may not purchase potions of youth and any completed skills, aspirations, or other Legacy Challenge scoring methods do not count for them. They may not take a job. They cannot memorialize other Sims. If they were a member of the Legacy Challenge family.
  • Ghost Sims can still be memorialized but only by Sims that knew them in life.
  • An invited ghost who is no longer welcome may be moved out just like unwanted family members.
