Sims 4 Creator’s Camp – Whims

While at Sims 4 Creator’s Camp, I was able to experiment a bit with the whims of Sims. Below is what I discovered.

Whims are the new wants. Whims are things your Sim wants to do right now. Every Sim can have up to 3 whims at a time. Two of these whims are general whims and will arise from the general situation. They can be generated by situations, traits or one’s career. In fact, mousing over them will tell you exactly what caused them to appear. General whims will stick around until you either fulfill them or cancel them. There is no penalty to canceling them; a new one will take its place pretty quickly.
The third whim is tied directly to the Sim’s current emotion and has been given the nickname a ‘hot whim’. Unlike the two general whims, their hot whim will forcibly change every time a Sim’s dominant emotion changes. Depending on the circumstances, a Sim’s emotion might only last for a few hours. As a result, the aspiration points gained from fulfilling hot whims tend to be higher compared to the effort needed. They can also be chained. If you fulfill a hot whim, it is immediately replaced by another hot whim related to the emotion.

Sims 4 Creator’s Camp – Careers and School

Sims 4 careers

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to The Sims 4 Creator’s Camp at EA headquarters last week. I learned a lot about the game while I was there and thought that I would share some of that with you. To start, I will be discussing careers and school.

This is a rather lengthy article, but I wanted to cover as much as I could on the subject, so please bear with me.

EA releases new Sims 4 Emotions gameplay trailer

EA has released a new official gameplay trailer to the public. This one focuses on emotions. Emotions will be at the very core of the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge, so this is an important one to see! Check it out above!

Pinstar is at The Sims 4 Creator’s Camp!

Now that we’ve been given the “OK” to announce this, we wanted to let you all know that Pinstar was invited to The Sims 4 Creator’s Camp at EA headquarters. He will be there this week. While we can’t discuss what is going on there until later in August, we can say that this is an exciting opportunity for him as a challenge builder in the game.

We are super grateful that EA considered him for this opportunity and I can’t wait to hear what he’s seeing while he’s there. We will post more information once we’ve been given the nod from EA to do so. I will answer any questions that I can, but for the moment, that probably won’t be much. Also, bear in mind that I am not there myself, so I don’t know much of what is going on until I speak with Pinstar.

For more information on Creator’s Camp, check out SimsVIP’s post about it.

Legacy Challenge Family Wealth

Sims 4 House and Bills

Before we get started, please make sure to read the following from Graham Nardone:

“The consequences of not paying your bills is more severe now. Let your bills go without paying them? First your power gets shut off. Next your water gets shut off. It’s a fun scenario to put your Sims in on occasion (they recognize it and get some unique socials about it). The bill upkeep on more expensive homes is harsher than it’s been in the past as well, so you truly better be earning enough to support living in one. I hope both those things contribute to greater challenges when you put your Sims in those situations.” (to see the whole conversation, go here)

E3: Discussing the next generation of the Legacy Challenge

Sims 4

Let me share with you some thoughts that are bouncing around in my mind in regards to how the Legacy Challenge might take shape after watching the new E3 Sims 4 Gameplay Trailer.

Personality Traits: While there are fewer per sim, they seem to have a much more powerful effect on said Sim and how they interact with the world. This bodes VERY well for the Legacy Challenge. I *hope* they have a randomize button in the game as I intend to carry on the tradition of ‘customize the founder, random for everyone else’.

A primer on The Legacy Challenge and emotions in the Sims 4

Sims 4 Emotions

Back in the Legacy Challenge in the Sims 2, there was a condition called “Social Bunnies need love too,” that could earn you points. If your Sim got so lonely, so desperate for attention, they could hallucinate an imaginary invisible friend in the form of a bunny. These bunnies came in three colors and if you got a blue and pink one to spawn at once (from two different sims) they would begin to romance with each other. It was a neat little Easter egg and it was also hard as heck to do.

Since then, very little about the Legacy Challenge has involved sending your Sim into specific moods other than the concrete benefits of a high mood on job performance. With the introduction of Emotional states in the Sims 4, this opens up new possibilities for challenging setups and possibilities to score points.

While we do not know enough about emotions yet to form concrete game-play mechanics within the context of the Legacy Challenge, this does spawn some possibilities. If there are some actions that can *only* be performed while under the thrall of a specific emotion, such things could be worth points. Likewise if there are some emotional states that are more difficult to achieve, like the aforementioned double opposite gender imaginary rabbits, those too could be worth points. Combine the two: A difficult action that can ONLY be done while under a rare emotion and you’ve certainly got a candidate for points. Managing your Sims emotional states will be important to the new Legacy Challenge.

Added a Sims 4 category to the forums!

I just added a category to our forums for discussions specific to The Sims 4. If you have any questions for us regarding our plans for the Sims 4 or if you have any suggestions for us, please post them there.  We’d love to hear from you!

We’d really like the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge to be more of a group effort.  Rather than Pinstar coming up with rules and posting them, we’d really like to incorporate some fan ideas into the challenge as well.  You all have been such a huge part of the success of this challenge that we want you all to have input into how the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge goes.  So if there is something you’d like to see, please let us know on the forums!

Sims 4 News – Game Set to Launch in Fall of 2014!

EA has announced that the Sims 4 will be launching in the fall of 2014.  This is a bit later than their original plan of “early 2014”, but I’m not really complaining.  A later launch date means that they are giving themselves more time for testing which will -hopefully- alleviate some bugs (and we all know the Sims can be a buggy game!).

The game is now also available for pre-order.  You can do so either through the official Sims website or through another online shopping site such as Amazon.

One thing about the Sims 4 that has me pretty excited is Emotions.  I’m really curious as to how these will play out in the Legacy Challenge.  Information on The Sims 4 can be found at Hypable.com.

I really liked the Trait system in Sims 3 and I am glad to see that it will be making it’s return in the Sims 4.

I can’t give any details yet as to how the Legacy Challenge will work in The Sims 4, but I am hoping to get some information out soon.  Pinstar is reading through some information now, and will hopefully have something to share with you all soon.  It won’t be in-depth rules, but it might be a glimmer of what you can expect when the new game launches.

So now a question for our readers:

What would YOU like to see in the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge?  Was there anything specific in the previous challenges that you’d really prefer wouldn’t be in the new one, or maybe something you really loved that you want to see again?  We’d love to hear from you!
