Legacy Rules updated to include Science Babies

Hello everyone! I am slowly making my way through all of the new updates to the game and have updated the rules and succession laws to include science babies (hint: they count as naturally born as long as they can trace their lineage to the founder). The Legacy Challenge Lite rules have been updated as well.

I’ll be updating everything else for Growing Together as I get more time to play it. Stay tuned!

Planning Legacy Guides for Sims 4 Free to Play

Hello everyone! With the announcement of The Sims 4 going free to play on October 18, I wanted to start working on some Legacy Challenge related guides to post on the website. I have a list of guides that I want to post, but I would love your input on whether I should add others!

Here is what I have so far:

  • How to start a Legacy Challenge in the Sims 4
  • How to make money early on in the Legacy Challenge
  • Finding a spouse
  • Succession laws ranked by difficulty and which to choose
  • Building Legacy Houses
  • All packs ranked for how they work with the Legacy Challenge

Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Teen Aspirations & The Trait Generators

I have made a change to how the Random Trait Generators and the Legacy Challenge Rules work for the Sims 4. Since Teens can now roll for Aspirations that also include teen-specific aspirations along with the original aspirations from previous packs, it made sense to change the wording on when to roll for aspirations.

When a child becomes a teenager, roll for the teenager aspiration (ignore what the adult aspiration says for the moment) and go with whatever is assigned. If your teenager is able to complete their aspiration before adulthood, then you can either choose to go with a randomly generated adult aspiration from the generator next (to add some more randomness to your challenge) or do what has been done in the past and choose the next one. It’s up to you!

The rules have also been reworded to reflect this.

Legacy Challenge Updates – New Heir Laws

Hello everyone! Sorry that the rule updates are taking so long, but with the COVID-19 quarantine we are finding we have less time to work on the website right now since our kids are home with us. We will update when we can!

We do, however, have two new heir laws that you can use in your Legacy family. Both are centered around magic. You can check them out here.

We are also still working on other additional rules for all of the recent packs, but that will take a bit more time as there is a lot to sort through. Sorry for the delay!

Random Trait Generators Updated for the Cats & Dogs Expansion!

Hi everyone! Just a quick post to let you know that the both of the Random Trait Generators (the all traits at once and the one trait at a time generators) have been updated to include the Aspiration and two new traits included in the Cats & Dogs expansion. As always, if you do not own this expansion simply re-roll (click the Roll Another Child button) to get traits that you do have the expansion for.

Also, in regards to changes to the Legacy Challenge rules for this new expansion… there likely will not be any major gameplay changes. We will not be updating the rules to include a pet Legacy as pets count as part of your 8 Sim limit which will make it very difficult to run your regular Sim Legacy. Legacy families are allowed to have pets, but just keep in mind that they count towards your Sim limit which might be a problem if you have a lot of Sims in a particular generation.

There MIGHT be a standalone pet related challenge coming in the future, but no changes will be made to any of our current challenges to add pets sub-rules.

Legacy Rules for the Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Will Be Delayed

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that updated Legacy Challenge Rules for the Sims 4 Cats & Dogs will likely be delayed for a bit. We are unable to purchase the game at the moment which means we won’t be able to do any sort of playtesting to see what we needed updated/add/change for the rules. We are hoping to be able to buy the game in a week or so, but until then, the rules will not be updated. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!

I also have a challenge in mind for the new expansion, but again, it will need to wait until I can actually obtain the expansion to playtest everything. Hopefully soon! I just wanted to be up front and transparent about why there is a delay with the rules.

Legacy Challenge Rules Clarification: Who Earns Points

All of the Sims here can earn the family points as long as they remain within the Legacy Family house.

All of the Sims here can earn the family points as long as they remain within the Legacy Family house.

There has been a little confusion and a little ambiguity regarding spares, non-primary spouses, cadet branches, and the children of spares in terms of who can earn points for the family. I hope this post will clarify a few things. If this post contradicts any past rulings I’ve given on the subject, this update takes precedence. With Alien pregnancies, adoptions, and the plethora of different succession law choices, having an open rule like this makes it a lot easier to figure out scoring without fundamentally changing the challenge.

Anyone who is living in the Legacy House is eligible to earn you points, period. Be them heirs, spares, primary or non-primary spouses, spouses of spares, children of spares (aka cadet branches)…if they are in the active house, they can earn the family points. Keep in mind that certain distinctions are very important for other parts of the challenge. Who your eligible and ineligible heirs are (based on your succession law) is important for future generations, who your “Primary Spouses” are is important for the Love category of points.

What is important is that they MUST be in the Legacy family lot in order to earn you points. Keep in mind that any mod that allows you to exceed the 8-sims per household limit would be considered cheating, as it would give you an advantage over a player who was limited to 8 sims max.

You may move out Sims (besides the heir) at any time. When you do this, they cease to be allowed to earn you points. Any points they HAVE earned thus far can be kept, and you may do things like spend all their aspiration points for youth potions for points…but once they are out of the house, they cease to earn points. Parts of the family who have thus been moved out but who still live in the neighborhood are known as “Cadet Branches”.

Don’t forget that once a Sim has moved out of the Legacy household, they may never be moved back in.

There is no need to restart your current Legacies with this change. Just grandfather in the new rules as you see fit. If you want to keep the rules more strict, feel free to stick with the old way.
