What items do you feel are absolute necessities when starting a Legacy Challenge?

Hello everyone! I have decided to start up a new House Build series that focuses on building and designing houses around various stages of the Legacy Challenge (beginning, middle, and end). I thought it would be nice to supply a bunch of pre-built houses for those of you who enjoy the Legacy Challenge, but don’t necessarily enjoy building. I’ll be making starter houses, mid-range houses (for when your Sims have money to afford more stuff), and also a few mansions. I’ll also be making sure to include houses that will help your Sims finish off their aspirations.

I’m currently in the process of building some starter houses and I’m wondering… what items do you consider absolute necessities (items your Sims can’t live without) at the very beginning of the challenge? I want to make sure to include as many necessities in the starter house as possible! I will not be using items from any packs (just the base game), at least for starter houses (I will for houses that help meet certain aspirations later on though).

Let me know in the comments below what items you consider necessities! This will really help me decide what to put into the starter houses as money is extremely limited!

Just a thought. Since these will be started homes why not build them on smaller lots. They could then be used by anyone needing a starter home. And of course be used on the larger lots for the Legacy challenge.
My minimum is a Potty bush, a place to sleep and a cooler. Maybe a grill or campfire unless one is already nearby. No need to rush by building rooms but those who must could start with only an enclosed toilet and maybe either a sink -or- shower. Until we get weather sleeping outdoors (bed or tent) is still a viable option.
Example of a Room that can serve as a starter is Sad Box on the Lawn #BoxOnTheLawn #EQCreations
(Gallery not working). Totally open concept with everything including a small radio and cheap computer.

That’s not a bad idea! Because the houses themselves can be placed on larger lots but they can’t be placed on smaller lots if I build them on the biggest lot, right?

I can look into that, I just have to make sure that they don’t go too far over budget if they are placed on a larger lot later. If that makes sense. I haven’t had coffee yet lol.

Is the potty bush a pack item though? I’m trying to avoid using too many pack items, especially on the starter houses. Since i know not everyone has those packs. Though maybe I could make a house without pack stuff and a house with? That could work.

Once they’re out of the absolute-necessities-lawn-living stage, I think the essentials for a starter are:
*a mid-range double bed that won’t make them uncomfortable
*toilet
*shower
*sink (one is fine, either kitchen or bathroom)
*fridge
*at least one counter
*easel for earning money
*chessboard for getting focused emotion
*bookcase
*a few bright ceiling lights for good pics
*trash can and mailbox, of course

If there’s extra money or you’re going for the next stage, I’d include:
*stove
*desk and chair (plus computer or it can be earned from the Writing career)
*loveseat or couch
*table and chairs
*stereo
*recycling money trash can if in the budget (instead of outdoor trash can)

The next stage, of course, involves toddler stuff usually.

Thank you! I’ll be making a bunch of post-starter houses so I’ll make sure to include all of these.

Thank you!!! I’m so happy!

What a great idea! My “normal” essentials are a bed (best they can afford), refrigerator, toilet, and sink. I try to enclose the toilet as soon as possible to prevent death by embarrassment. Then, I add whatever is necessary for their job, such as easel, desk, chair and computer (can get by putting sim in writer career until first promotion) and bookcase for entertainment. I like to add a radio about now too. Forget about the earbuds…I think they’re useless.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
